Job Description
Who you are
You have extensive experience in machine learning and a proven track record of managing technical teams — you've successfully led projects that leverage advanced ML techniques to solve complex problems. Your background includes a deep understanding of generative AI and its applications in real-world scenarios, particularly in mapping and automation.
You are skilled in collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring that technical strategies align with broader organizational goals — your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly helps bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You thrive in environments where innovation is key, and you are always looking for ways to push the boundaries of what's possible with technology.
Your leadership style is inclusive and empowering — you believe in mentoring your team members and fostering an environment where everyone can contribute ideas and grow their skills. You are adept at defining technical strategies that not only meet current needs but also anticipate future challenges in the field of autonomous driving.
Desirable
Experience with high-resolution mapping technologies and their integration into autonomous systems would be a significant advantage — you understand the nuances of creating and maintaining accurate maps for autonomous vehicles. Familiarity with the latest advancements in machine learning frameworks and tools is also beneficial, as is a passion for the mission of improving mobility and safety through technology.
What you'll do
In this role, you will manage a team of machine learning engineers focused on automating the creation of Waymo's high-definition maps — your leadership will be crucial in defining the technical strategy for mapping automation that scales globally. You will apply and advance state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, including Vision-Language Models and other generative AI approaches, to pioneer innovative solutions in mapping automation.
You will collaborate closely with partner ML teams, such as Waymo Perception and Waymo AI Foundations, to ensure that the mapping infrastructure supports the needs of various applications — your ability to work across teams will enhance the overall effectiveness of the mapping efforts. You will also be responsible for overseeing the design, training, and deployment of machine learning models, ensuring that they meet the high standards required for autonomous driving.
Your role will involve setting clear objectives for your team and providing the necessary resources and support to achieve them — you will monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed to ensure success. You will also be involved in stakeholder communication, presenting updates and insights on mapping automation initiatives to senior leadership.
